Once upon a time, deities Izanami and Izanagi stood on a "floating bridge of heaven" and stirred the land of chaos with a "heavenly jeweled spear". Drops of sea water fell from the tip of the spear and solidified into an island called Onogoro. They then descent from heaven. After landing on the island, they got married and later founded Japan. This is so called the birth of Japan in Kojiki, a Japanese mythology. The whole story origins from the ages of the gods and end in the age of Express Jitou Tenno (645-702 CE, reigning: 690-697 CE)

Meanwhile, in the Western hemisphere, there is also a tale on the creation of a state, albeit less poetic. English philosopher Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679) depicts his ideal polity as Leviathan, a dangerous monster with formidable powers from Jewish mythology in the form of a sea serpent.
